This is a comprehensive and flexible program allowing you the freedom to investigate your unique interests and to specialize in any area of yoga therapy : Ayurveda, structural anatomy and alignment, Prenatal and Postpartum yoga, Youth yoga, yin yoga, psychotherapy, mindfulness training, or alignment yoga to name a few.

Our program is a comprehensive training emphasizing the inherent diversity and complementarity of the yoga traditions and the many therapeutic applications. Similar to a graduate or other professional training, this program will provide you with the foundational coursework necessary to allow you to further your education in an area of specialty.

Applicants will pass a competency test midway through the program then declare their specialty pending successful evaluation. Electives, additional coursework above the 300-hour required courses, narrative work, research, and case studies are integral parts of this training.

Required Courses:

FAQ’s about the 700-hr program

Q: what are the requirements for the affiliate certificate
The WM affiliate certificate t is an e-course comprised of a  300-page home-study course including video and audio content, and 2 private Skype sessions with Kellie. It’s primarily to lay the foundation of the WM therapeutic approach which encompasses Ayurveda, kinesiology, body observation, alignment-based vinyasa, + a hefty toolbox of mindfulness techniques from both the yoga + the Buddhist traditions. Much of the materials are drawn from my Foundations program {a YA-registered 200-hr program}, which is a comprehensive entry level yoga therapy program..
The affiliate certification will level the playing field for all in the 700-hr program to conserve our valuable time in the therapeutics training. It is be reasonably priced + you may complete it concurrent with the training. The purpose of the WM affiliate certification is two fold: 1} to grow a network of teachers well-versed in a range of therapeutic techniques, and house those teachers contact information in a centralized location {the WM practitioner directory} and 2} to introduce the foundations of the WM approach to yoga therapy before the therapy training.
Of course, you will draw from your own {substantial + highly valuable} training background + area of specialty in your own practice as a yoga therapist. This, as I’ve noted above, is intended to give you a very large toolbox from which to draw in your work with clients. As you know, certain techniques are more effective than others in certain conditions {a few examples that come to mind: visualizations for chronic pain, heart-opening meditations for cardiac conditions, Yin yoga for auto-immune disorders, Yoga Nidra for anxiety and insomnia}. I would like everyone in the training to start building their practice based on –when possible– clinically tested protocols.
Q: What is the structure of the 700-hr program?
The program is comprised of 3 ‘micro-trainings’ in therapeutic specialities: the first is the 120-hr Yin + Restorative, the second is the 120-hr Therapeutic Yang techniques, + the third is a 60-hr module in the Art of Wise Living {including Ayurveda}. You may begin the training at any time, though it is recommended to begin at the beginning of a micro-training.
This is the only program of its kind :: in that, you will receive 3 separate + powerful certificates in specialty areas.
Q: Lay it out for me…why should I do the full yoga therapy training?
1} credentialing for yoga therapists –and the increased recognition + valuation that comes with that –is in the near future
2} the grandfathering credentials are much lighter than the newly released standards, which means getting in on the ‘ground level’ {so-to-speak} is advantageous
3} yoga therapy schools will soon become a 3-year professional program in which one can reasonably invest $20K {this program is a fraction of that even though the scope of the program
4} this particular program is focused on professional development for yoga therapists, to that end….
5} Each weekend will feature a presenter with a specialty focus so you will be learning from + connecting with a number of clinicians + therapists in your area {i.e., have a built -in network for growing your yoga therapy practice}
Q: This 120-hr Yin, Restorative, + Yoga Nidra training is part of your therapy program.  When will you be offering the other modules?
The other modules {60 hrs, Art of Wise Living + 120-hrs, Yang Therapeutics: Anatomy, Alignment + Adjustments} will follow in early to mid 2014. If there is interest in an intensive format {4-5 days}, that will be provided.
Q: I don’t have tons of time for homework –can I still do this program?
The short answer is YES! We will focus on therapeutic applications and experiential learning throughout the training which means you will be integrating the information in several different ways.
In addition, all the outside work will build toward the creation of treatment protocols in your area of specialty.

Q: How does your program adhere to the endless changes of YA therapy requirements?
Although I have drawn from the YA requirements in building the structure {amount of hours, content layout}, I am looking toward the International Association of Yoga Therapists to guide the actual content, the areas of focus, and the other requirements {the 150-hr applied practicum/mentorship, for example. The Ayurveda/philosophy/mindfulness component, as well, is drawn directly from the IAYT standards for yoga therapy.}.

Q: how does your program fulfill the IAYT grandfathering guidelines?
The IAYT has released tentative grandfather guidelines to reflect a ‘yoga therapist’ standing provided one BEGINS a 500-hr training WITH a therapeutic focus by December 31, 2013. They’ve established grandfathering credentials as noted above}.
Q: Is your school a member school with the IAYT?
YES, we are a member school with the IAYT! The IAYT will begin accrediting Yoga Therapy schools who abide by the NEW standards {aka, reviewing school curriculum + accepting applications} in May, 2013. I will be submitting this curriculum to them as a Level I curricula and am hard at work developing a Level II {to abide by their remaining guidelines}. Additionally, I am on the Yoga Alliance Studios + Schools committee + will be very well-informed about what is happening in that credentialing process, as well. It is my intention is to abide by each of the organization’s standards, but uplevel the program to accommodate the highest requirements {which, at this time, is the IAYT}.
I do hope this information helps you in your decision -making process. I’d be more than happy to set up a phone chat if you have more specific questions {or would simply like to talk}.
